New Year’s ‘resOlution’ exhibition at the Musgrove Gallery

New Year’s ‘resOlution’ exhibition at the Musgrove Gallery

The new ‘resOlution’ art exhibition will be displayed at the Musgrove Gallery in the Taunton-based hospital’s Queen’s Building, between January 22 and March 19.

Allison Day, a member of Musgrove’s Accident and Emergency team, was asked to guest curate an exhibition and the theme of New Year’s resolutions was her inspiration.

“In a world full of pressure to look a certain way it’s difficult to resist the urge to aspire to unrealistic expectations to look like the airbrushed images in the glossy magazines,” said Allison.

“But does this really make us happy and is it really good for our wellbeing, both physical and emotional?
“This exhibition brings together eight artists whose work conveys the unique identity of the individual and subtly encourages self-acceptance.

“This perhaps has particular resonance in a hospital setting where patients’ sense of self and well-being may be challenged.”

The exhibition will include paintings, photographs, ceramics and plastic artworks from artists Sara Dudman, Kate Noble, Malcolm Ashman, Caroline Rudge, Ingrid Hesling, Laura Rouse, Deborah Stevens and Bronwen Gwillim.

Sara Dudman, who recently began her role as curator of the Musgrove Gallery, added: “We are grateful to Allison for stepping in and making us think about how art can be used to send positive health messages.

“I am very excited about this exhibition and hope that as many people as possible will find the time to come and visit.”

The Musgrove Gallery is an exhibition space situated in the Queen’s Building at Musgrove Park Hospital. The Gallery opened in 2009 and holds exhibitions throughout the year showcasing some of the local area’s best artists.
